I was down in Penang a couple weeks ago for a photoshoot and was very lucky to have the chance to have some really delicious and not to mention famous food on my table. First up was beef soup koay teow (opposite a fire station, can’t remember the road) which tasted very similar to the noodles from Pho Hoa, but definitely the favorite of the two.
The last day I got to have 2 of my favorite hawker foods - lo bak and char koay teow! Both were in the same shop. The lo bak apparently is so well known that they’re invited to Singapore every year to open shop during some special event. And Penang char koay teow was nice. Not the best I’ve tasted (I love it when they put lap cheong in, not many do), but it was heaps better than the usual hawkers I go to in KL. Not too dry or burnt (don’t you just hate it when they do that?), and the taste was not too overwhelming, just nice.
I was in Penang doing a shoot for Christien New and KTM Superbikes. I was dreading over the shoot weeks before leaving. I haven’t had any experience shooting bikes and the entire thing proved quite challenging. From location hunting to timing (weather was a pain) to the actual photo taking, shooting bikes is harder than it looks.
